Percussie-ensemble WIK Zemst-Laar

Percussion Ensemble Concert division

Bio

Percussion ensemble WIK is one of the divisions of the Royal Fanfare “Willen is Kunnen” from Zemst-Laar, Flemish Brabant, Belgium. It consists of both rhythmic and melodic percussion instruments, complemented by guitars, a piano, and occasionally a wind section. They are about 25 young musicians with a strong rhythmic sense, conducted by Nik Goovaerts. Every Saturday afternoon, they rehearse enthusiastically to perform at the highest level. The success of this group reaches far beyond the Flemish borders: first prizes at European and World Championships proudly adorn the WIK rehearsal hall. In 2009, they participated in the World Music Contest in Kerkrade, where they became world champions—a prestigious title they held for four years. In 2023, the percussion ensemble took part in Vlamo’s WTC Percussion competition. They performed at a top level and achieved first place in the superior division with an impressive 98.33% score! They went on to win another championship title in the Netherlands at the ONSK in 2024. On October 5, 2025, they once again competed in Vlamo’s WTC Percussion, in the superior division, becoming Belgian champions with 96.37%, and were also named Vlamo Ambassadors. Since 2014, the percussion ensemble has organized its own annual concert featuring world-class performances and soloists: “Ritmo y Tapas del Mundo.
