The Koninklijk Harmonieorkest Kerkrade is the city orchestra of Kerkrade, with musical roots dating back to 1843. During the World Music Contest of 2017, the orchestra achieved second place in the second division, with a stunning score of 95.33 points. The Koninklijk Harmonieorkest Kerkrade has a great social significance in providing a meaningful connection within the local community. It contributes to musical and social connections across generations and actively participates in communal activities within the city of Kerkrade. The orchestra honours the local musical traditions, while contributing to the contemporary evolution of wind music. One of the two predecessors of the Koninklijk Harmonieorkest Kerkrade, Harmonie Sint Pancratius Nulland, was one of the founding fathers of the first World Music Contest in 1951. The Koninklijk Harmonieorkest Kerkrade has a strong social base, meaning that each member is responsible for active participation.
