Südtiroler Jugendblasorchester
Harmonieorkest 1e divisie
Bio
The "Südtiroler Jugendblasorchester" (SJBO) was founded in 2005 to offer talented young musicians from South Tyrol the opportunity to perform symphonic wind literature at a high artistic level under renowned conductors. A central activity is the annual orchestra week in July, concluding with several concerts. The ensemble has appeared at events such as the "Innsbrucker Promenadenkonzerte", “Mid Europe” in Schladming, and the "Gustav Mahler Music Weeks" in Dobbiaco. Its history is further enriched by CD recordings featuring commissioned works by contemporary South Tyrolean composers and performances with outstanding soloists from within its own ranks. A particular highlight was the world premiere of Johan de Meij’s Symphony No. 4 (Sinfonie der Lieder) in 2013, written for wind orchestra, mezzo soprano, and children’s choir. The SJBO’s first conductor was Karl Geroldinger, followed by Thomas Doss, Peter Vierneisel, Josef Feichter, and Isabelle Ruf-Weber. Since 2022, the orchestra has once again been under the musical direction of Karl Geroldinger.
