Bio

The Estonian Youth Wind Orchestra is an orchestra, which consists of 67 instrumentalists aged 12-25 from all over Estonia. Members are chosen and invited to the orchestra, as the aim of the orchestra is to be the highest level youth orchestra in Estonia. As it is a youth orchestra, members are changing regularly  new young talents are joining and older players are growing out. The orchestra was founded in 1972 as the Republic Youth Wind Orchestra and the first conductor was Ilmar Tõnisson. In 1994 the orchestra moved under the Estonian Choir Association and was renamed as Estonian Youth Wind Orchestra. Since then, the orchestra has been conducted by Ott Kask, Harry Illak, Aavo Ots, Valdo Rüütelmaa, Jaan Ots, Sirly Illak-Oluvere, Riivo Jõgi and Tarmo Kivisilla. Since 2024, the conductor has been Silver Niinemets. During the years, the orchestra has gone on several concert tours and competitions abroad, for example in Finland, Italy, the Netherlands, France and USA. The orchestra was awarded the title of "Wind Orchestra of the Year 2017" by the Estonian Choir Association. Since 2024 the orchestra has had many concerts in Estonia, as the aim has been to raise the level and practise cooperation
