Banda de Música de Zamora, successor to the historic provincial band founded in 1919, has undergone major changes. Formed in 1963 under Felipe Blanco Aguirre, it later evolved into the Asociación Cultural "Banda de Música de Zamora" in 1996, with José Ignacio Petit Matías becoming conductor in 2001, ushering in international recognition. The band earned 4th prize at the 2002 Certamen de Valencia, 3rd in Leganés (2003) and again in Valencia (2004). In 2005, it won gold with honors and was crowned absolute champion in Ostrava (Czech Republic), and took 2nd prize in Portugal. In 2008, it won 1st prize and overall champion in Austria’s Mid Europe, plus 2nd in Switzerland. In 2010, it earned 2nd in France’s "Coups de Vents," becoming virtual winner. It also placed 2nd in Portugal (2018) and 3rd in Benavente (2019), where it also won Best Conductor. In 2022, it took 2nd place again in Valencia. In 2024, the band won 1st place in the Certamen “Villa de Olivares” and received awards for best performance, conductor, soloist, and the audience prize. Strongly connected to local artists, the band organizes concerts year-round, including the educational “Conciertos Divertidos” and the Hispano-Luso Festival.
