HaFaBra competes for title in Dutch Open

Contest Weekend WMC 60 welcomes lots of talent in the concert division.

This weekend, October 1st and 2nd 2011, the musical battle starts in the Rodahal. The best Brass Bands and HaFa orchestras compete for the title of best Brass Band, Harmony and Fanfare in the Dutch Open. The orchestras are prepared to perform a perfect act. Battle of the Brass Bands
The number of applications for the Brass Bands where overwhelming from the beginning. On Saturday, October 1st, you can enjoy the Festival Brass Band, Brass Band Buizingen, Brass Band Willebroek, Brass Band Treize Etoiles, and Brass Band Heist. The bands are divided into two sessions, which of course you can visit seperate. The first session starts at 12.00. The presentation of the results starts at 20.30.

The schedule for the Brass Bands is certain! Therefore, we can announce the order in which the participating Brass Bands will perform in the Rodahal. The first three bands are placed in the first session.

Top HaFa on Sunday
The Dutch Open is intended for the best amateur orchestras in the world. The HaFa section enters the Rodahal on Sunday, on the last day of WMC60, to end the anniversary in style. In particular the high level of the bands makes this a spectacular edition. Bands that participate in the battle include former world champions Harmonie Eensgezindsheid Maasbracht-Beek and St. Michael Thorn, Symphonisches Blasorchester Ried im Innkreis, and Banda Sinfonica Portuguesa. The program is divided into two parts and starts at 13.30. The presentation of the results starts at 21:30.

Daytime box office
Both tickets for Saturday and Sunday are available at the daytime box office in the entrance of the Rodahal and cost € 17.50 per session.

Show your musical arts at the Rockstar Talent Show

WMC 60 is not just for the familiar wind music lovers. The new generation also gets a chance to present themselves at WMC, thanks to the Rock Stars Talent Show on September 28th .

RockstarForADay and WMC provide a great party at the market in Kerkrade, in which all children from Parkstad show what they are capable of musically. From playback and live performances to dancing and playing an instrument: This talentshow has all aspects! On September 28th the party starts from 16 hours!

The presentation of the show is provided by Co Hazes and Jean Luc. They are the owners of the TV station TV4kids, which was recently nominated for the Passion Award. One of the judges during the talent show is the frontman of the breakdance act Trashcan Heroes, Ricardo. Mascotte Rick Rockstar and his Rockstar dancers complete the show. The winner of the Rockstar talent show may also occur at TV Limburg, but there are many more great other prizes to be won!

A warm welcome to the musical youth!
During the weekend of 1 & 2 October the fourth edition of the International Ensemble and Soloists Contest will be held in the Campus Kerkrade. During these competitions for youth, various international jury teams assess soloists and ensembles in the categories woodwind/brass, percussion, big band and jazz combo, focusing on young, ambitious musicians who consider a career in music. And this edition is special because there are more applications than ever before! Curious? Come and visit this free accessible contest and be amazed by the variety of wind music.

Development
The development of the young musician is important to the World Music Contest. This competition aims at providing new talent a chance to profile themselves in the national and international music industry. The winners of the competition have the opportunity to use the contacts WMC has built during its existence. during the opening of WMC 60 was announced that funding is made available for the project WMC Young Generation. WMC considers it a priority to invest in youth.

Record Participation
Never before have we welcomed so many young musicians in Kerkrade. We are proud that the IESC gets plenty of attention from the musical youth. This participation record convinces us even more that the demand for an international music competition for youth is high. We are honored to be able to contribute to the development of the wind music industry.

Program
Given the large number of participants, almost 300, we offer a varied program which is entirely free accessible! On Saturday, October 1st, the categories Woodwind/ Brass in the concert and the first division and the Big Bands and Jazz Combos will perform. The second day is devoted to the categories woodwind/ brass and percussion, all in the first, second, and third division. In short, a diverse and astonishing program worth a visit!
Big Band CKVU and Jazz Combo Twogether & Two will have the chance to gain more public experience! They provide a surprise concert on the market in Kerkrade on Saturday October 1st .

Visit Máxima during opening WMC was a great succes

Youth, music and royal charm create atmospheric opening
Princess Maxima of the Netherlands attended as guest of honor during the opening of the 60-year old "birthday party" of WMC. At 16.00 precisely the princess arrived at the Rodahal and enthusiastically showed her appreciation for the WMC and the goals WMC pursuits in relation to youth wind bands. At 17.00 hours she said goodbye to WMC and the city of Kerkrade.

Warm welcome
Maxima was warmly welcomed by the musical tones of the youth harmonies "Harmonie St. Cecilia Eygelshoven" and "Royal Harmony St. Philomena Chevremont". On behalf of the Board, Reg van Loo waited for her along with the mayor of Kerkrade, Jos Som ,and the deputy of the governor, commissioner Mark Verheijen. Princess Máxima did not only made time for youth orchestras, but also spoke extensively with WMC volunteers before they attended the official opening.

WMC60 and rejuvenation
"Children and music", rejuvenation and WMC Young Generation, where the central themes during the opening. These themes are in line with the project "Children and Music" that Princess Maxima created herself. Frans Pollux, master of ceremonies, discussed with Ms. Walter (director of the German Foundation "Jedem Kind Sein Instrument") and Ms. Correddu (conductor St. Cecilia Eygelshoven) about how this theme is picked up internationally. In this context, a number of sponsors overhanded 85,000 euros to WMC to invest in youth and culture. A gesture which was enthusiastically received by the president and treasurer of WMC.

A big smile
Music brings people together. "WMC is an event not only special because of its quality and reach (20,000 participants from 35 countries!), but also because we do not create an Olympic Village in Kerkrade, but the people embrace the musicians and provide them shelter themselves. WMC is supported by the community and that is the charm of our event.

Relaxed and sociable
The afternoon ended with an informal gathering where we raised our glasses to the anniversary of WMC and afterwards Princess Máxima mingled among the guests. After a warm farewell she left at 17:00. The rest of the guests remained at the Rodahal for the opening concert, The Priest and his Servant Balda ", a special opera that is presented for the first time in the Netherlands.

New Cool Collective brings the beat WMC 60

Boiling concert that excels in musicality!
Tomorrow evening the jazz/funk sensation of our country, New Cool Collective, visits WMC60. On September 28th the Rodahal will swing! The men of NCC are busy launching their new album in October, so chances are new records will be played on Wednesday!

Musicality
Who has been able to admire the men of New Cool Collective, know that they guarantee a swinging evening. For over 15 years, they are praised for their unique blend of jazz, dance, latin, salsa, Afrobeat and Boogaloo.

The band lives up to its name! New and Cool are words that are written on their body. In tight suits they enter the stage, but the evening will end in a party! The concert of this big band is one of the highlights during WMC 60.

cooperation
Together with their big band, they work with youth orchestras from Parkstad Limburg, just as they did with Typhoon and Amy Winehouse. Known stages where the New Cool Collective previously performed include Paradiso, Lowlands and the North Sea Jazz Festival. They also toured through the Benelux, Great Britain, Germany, Africa, Canada, Russia and Japan.

Spectacular outdoor festival during WMC 60

From September 24th through October 2nd, there are a number of outdoor activities planned in the Outdoor Festival in Kerkrade. Fun is guaranteed!

Performances

WMC Kerkrade programmed some top bands at the market in Kerkrade. The first performance will occur on Friday September 23rd. Solid is a young enthusiastic cover band with a broad repertoire. They play modern music and old covers from the Beatles, Lenny Kravitz and the Red Hot Chili Peppers to Amy Winehouse, The Ting Tings and Alphabeat! On Friday September30, Anderkovver will pass the stage. Musicality with a touch of humor and a tuft of chaos are the ingredients of this band! Also, Big Band Time Out performs on Saturday October 1st . Big Band Time Out has a great repertoire with the motto "the party of recognition"! Both bands are the basis for a great night! In the afternoon of October 1st Big Band CKVU and Jazz Combo twogether & two, both contestants from the International Ensemble and Soloists Competition, also provide a special appearance at the market in Kerkrade!

Streetparade Kerkrade

Especially for the 60th anniversary of WMC Kerkrade, a great street parade will be held in Kerkrade. This parade will take a historical course! The route runs from the "Continium" through the Stationsstraat, Grupellostraat, Hoofdstraat to the Market, and then through the Kapellaan behind the "Hamboskliniek". The street parade starts at 14.00 hours.

Especially for WMC an unique edition of RockstarForADay will be held on September 28th. In addition to singing and dancing, children who play an instrument are also allowed to enter the stage! "Stichting Popmuziek Parkstad" will also provide a venue which will start in the afternoon of October 1st . "Zaate hermeniekes" is back! They perform on the 2nd of October from 17:30 at the market.

World's best big band performs in Kerkrade

It is not often that swinging big band lovers of the WDR Big Band have the possibiliy to experience them in Kerkrade. On September 29th The WDR big band is coming to perform in the Rodahal Kerkrade. Because of the 60th anniversary of WMC the famous band will perform together with the figurehead of the Kölsche dialect group BAP, Wolfgang Niedecken.

The best big band in the world
The best big band in the world was founded in 1946 under the name Cologne Dance and Entertainment. The orchestra was soon at the top of the German dance and musical industry. In the early years the band made a huge contribution to the pop music culture in Cologne. The Dutch arranger and bandleader Jerry van Rooyen contributed greatly to the success of this now world famous band.

Niedecken
Wolfgang Niedecken graces together with the WDR Big Band during this special evening of WMC 60. Niedecken is a grandeur in Cologne. The cooperation between the WDR Big Band and Niedecken lasts already six years! He founded the famous Kölsche rock band BAP and had many hits with them. He remains the only surviving founder of the group and of course he sings in Kölsch. He also published three solo albums. Many of his pieces are timeless and his vast repertoire appeals to a wide audience, such as "Kristallnaach" and the autobiographical "Nie with Aljebra".

Spectacular opening WMC 60

The jubilee edition of the 60th anniversary of the WMC opens in a spectacular way on September 22nd! Her Royal Highness Princess Máxima of the Netherlands attends the afternoon program of the opening of the 60th Anniversary of the World Music Contest Kerkrade on Thursday September 22nd 2011.

During the evening program the crossover opera "The Priest and his Servant Balda will be 'performed in the Rodahal, Kerkrade. The special crossover production will be performed with wind orchestra, chamber choir, vocal soloists, puppeteers and animation led by the Norwegian conductor Terje Lysebo Odd. The production is performed by the Koninklijke Harmonie Ste. Cécile Eijsden, the choir from Maastricht Studium Chorale and soloists of Opera Zuid and Opera Masterclass of the Conservatory Maastricht. The beautiful ballet is performed by dancers of the ballet school Joke de Backer.
