World Music Contest Kerkrade
As its core business, WMC Kerkrade organises contests for amateur bands and ensembles. The concerts by professional orchestras and bands during the WMC act as a link to the professional world.
The WMC is the largest event that WMC Kerkrade organises. Furthermore, WMC Kerkrade has full responsibility for organising international conducting competitions and clinics, the Dutch Open Concert Division and the International Ensemble and Soloists Contest for young musical talent.
Based on a great enthusiasm for music for wind and brass bands, WMC Kerkrade aims to guarantee and extend the high quality of such music worldwide. WMC Kerkrade has set itself the task of making music for wind and brass bands accessible to a large section of the public, for both the specialist and the layman.
WMC development function
In the course of time, WMC has developed into an incubator for the wind and brass band music sector, where important experiments can be carried out. In addition to contests and concerts, WMC Kerkrade Foundation organises, together with various partners, educational projects that focus on developing young musicians or music students, the musical context and even the administrative organisation.
